There are three types of will, personal will, good will and the will to good. Anders Behring Breivik’s actions in Norway are an example of personal will that is not tempered by the joy of heart centred consciousness. Good will and the will to good were not present. It demonstrated the absence of true power. In the USA, Republicans and Democrats have yet to seize the opportunity to overcome party self-interest and demonstrate the will to good by working for the highest good of all nations. A swift agreement on plans for dealing effectively with the national debt limit could help achieve this.
Adversity and challenge hold opportunities within them for the expression of good will and the will to good. Breivik’s actions facilitated a greater unity of heart centred consciousness both within Norway and from the compassion and sympathy extended by other nations. Stories of good will are emerging of acts of courage, compassion and kindness exercised by people who offered their services and resources during and in the aftermath of Breivik’s acts of madness. We are living through times of great challenge and change. The natural disasters of earthquakes, tsunami’s, civil unrest in some Arab states, are all stimulating people to stand in their true power. To rise above self-interest, open their hearts, exercise greater good will and to work for the highest good of all.
External events are a mirror of internal reality. Is there an area in your life where perhaps you are exercising personal will in a way which is harmful to others? Examples of this are acts of judgment, being selfish, bullying or trying to manipulate others. How often do you exercise good will such as extending acts of kindness to others? The will to good begins by setting the intention to work for the greater good of the whole. It can be expressed by simply rising above self-interest and /or being joyful. Joy is a magnet to more joy. It acts like a lit timber, which sets light to others. To stand in the light of your true power is to be aligned in Joy. It is a wonderful expression of the will to good.
