Judgment and Punishment

Two key features of unenlightened consciousness are judgment and punishment.  They evidence fear and the absence of authentic power, as evidenced by two news stories this week. The first is the demand by the Chinese Government, for the artist, Ai Weiwei to pay a $2.3 million in taxes. Ai Weiwei, who was imprisoned earlier this year, is an internationally, known critic of the Chinese Communist Party. He said that whilst he was in detention, his interrogators had told him, “if you criticise the government, then we have to teach a lesson.”

The second example is the Israeli government’s decision to speed up the construction of about 2,000 housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and freeze the transfer of funds to Palestine.  The settlements are reported as being illegal under international law, which Israel disputes. The money, which Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, [PA] is about $100m each month. It includes duties on goods being imported to the Palestinian territories and amounts to half of the PA's domestic revenue base.

Of course judgment in the sense of evaluating situations, considering facts and making decisions or giving opinions is good sense. However, personal judgments can be very harmful when sourced in the energy of revenge, retaliation, punishment, fault finding and so forth.

How does judgment operate in your life? Do you find fault with yourself or other people?  How do you feel when other people judge you?  Judgment erodes self- worth, creates stress and disharmony. Bullying is sourced in judgment.   Personally, punishments are  expressed as addictions, the inability to receive or value oneself.  Judgment says, “I am right, you are wrong. My ways are better than yours and must not be criticised or rebelled against.”   WAR, We Are Right, is sourced in judgment.

Judgment is the cause of unkindness, separation and conflict. It can be released by identifying how it operates in your life, experiencing how it feels and then by forgiveness and acceptance.  Liberating yourself from the judgment is a key to claiming your true power!

You can begin to eliminate stress at work by becoming aware that the continuous stream of thoughts is not you. You are more than your thoughts and feelings.
